The East Texas Chapter, established in 2008, is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization, affiliated with the American Parkinson Disease Association that was founded in 1961 to “Ease The Burden and Find the Cure” for Parkinson’s disease. Members are committed to provide hope and support to people with Parkinson’s disease; to support Parkinson’s disease research and programs through local fundraising; to raise public awareness about Parkinson’s disease in the East Texas area, which covers 23 counties; to disseminate information about the disease and provide practical means of dealing with its symptoms; and, to support programs that ease the burden for people with Parkinson’s and their care partners, such as medication assistance, respite care and a transportation voucher program.
